The concept of altruistic love( for atheists and religious) .

I want to define a new concept which could regulate people’s interactions which each other, it describes a state of mind yielding a different behavior in society. I called it altruistic love but it is not love ,that is a very complex cocktail of emotions and rational ideas and the word is used in too many different meanings. In very simple words altruistic love is describing the attitude of accepting we are all people and understanding how this unifies us. Trivial ? But there is more to it.

First we have to understand what are the essential properties which make us human. For example we can start from the genetic structures in the species Human but most information in it is not essential, the color of eyes, hair, skin, the shape of nose ,chin, belly,The diseases and deviations like missing limps, hermaphrodite people, people with Downs syndrome, age . Nobody doubts that babies are human and demented old people too, so there is a problem with abortion and euthanasia ,when do we start or stop to talk about being human when viewing having a “decent” worthwhile human life as one of the main factors?

In fact when selecting essential features not so many remain! First awareness, the ability to observe and learn, the ability to construct abstract structures around realities, the dependency on others to survive, like parents etc…,so the need to be part of a society with a lot of human interactions, the mixing of creativity in cognitive actions using fantasy (perhaps this alone already characterizes humans). You can elaborate this much further but for now we can assume we have done the exercise and we have constructed a personal(!) idea of the essential properties of humans and we may view that as our idea of a generic matrix for all humans. Obviously around that generic matrix everybody has added a lot of details via the experiences in life, good or bad . The idea of the generic structure of a human is personal, but if it is honestly done ,(and that is very difficult because honest self-knowledge is perhaps the most difficult to achieve),then there are no personal traits appearing in the generic model(personal properties do not apply to all humans). Now the understanding that all people, also you, are like Christmas trees decorated on the same generic pine tree ,invites you to neglect the differences in decoration when talking about humans, immediately you realize your self is not more important than the other selves,so you do not ignore your self or sacrifice it,you used it in honestly analyzing it and seeing the generic structure in it,then you ignore any value or worth you have put on personal traits. That second step is also not easy, because rapists and serial killers are then also equivalent humans on the essential level .

Let me list some obvious immediate effects :first you automatically will be guided not to do to others what you do not want to be done onto yourself, that is without using any idea of god already the fundamental teaching of Christianity! Next, you immediately are lead to have solidarity with everyone (on the essential level),every self being “exchangeable” essentially, also you will be humble because not better than anybody and you will try to act in a just way because you want to be treated in a just way.You can go on with other so-called virtues (I do not like the listing of virtues,it is a personal list build upon some non-rational beliefs) honesty, patience, hope even for the benefit of others, and finally it will also bring some wisdom (not knowledge) with supporting interactions to society. In constructing your idea of the generic essential self you may have used your personal moral and certainly your personal knowledge,so it is indeed a personal model ,but the honesty I stressed in the beginning should force you to think carefully,to the best of your ability ,about the problems in finding your version of essential characteristics. So you will not be perfect but that is not the aim, anyway being non-perfect is perhaps included in the essential properties of all humans! Now you with all your links in society are connected to all others with all their links in society, some of these links depend on love ,here I mean the usual love,so the existence of love is one of the essential properties in humans, you recognize that and thus respect all other people’s love and ties with loved ones.So altruistic love does not mean you love (usual type) everybody, for example you are not obliged to love a serial killer ,but you treat them with altruistic love, meaning to recognize his humanity and understand that the evil he has done could also be done by you, depending on some experiences, bad relations, deviating brain properties ,so up to non-essential properties of humans. This at least leads to forgiveness. Here we also see the occurrence of society moral, not in the construction of our altruistic love but as an effect of it e.g. the will for cooperation in finding a living model suitable for everyone. Clearly altruistic love if added to friendship or usual love makes these emotions deeper. Since loving everybody is impossible and the objectified concept Love does not exist, altruistic love is the best attitude to live in a society, it will not be perfect but it will solve most problems and it is the same for atheists or religious people alike, a big advantage !
